NVIDIA and South Korea's SK Group unveiled a $500 billion-plus strategic partnership spanning next-generation memory and a nationwide build-out of AI computing infrastructure — a deal that underscores how the frontier of AI now runs as much through fabs and power substations as through model architectures.
Memory as the Real Bottleneck
At the technical heart of the agreement is a long-term commitment to co-develop high-bandwidth memory (HBM). The two companies will jointly design and optimize next-generation AI memory to serve everything from large-language-model training to agentic AI and physical AI. Two gigawatts is a scale that reframes what a "data center" means — comparable to the output of a large power plant, dedicated entirely to AI computation. The partnership extends across SK hynix co-developing memory not just for Vera Rubin supercomputers but for NVIDIA's Vera CPUs, RTX-powered PCs, and Jetson Thor robotic computing platforms — a reminder that the same memory technology now spans data-center training, edge inference, and embodied robots.
