Augmented reality, is a technology that allows digitally generated 3D objects to be overlaid in real-world scenarios using an Augmented reality device. The virtual object shows up on the screen in the real environment together with the device’s camera input. This way, the users can interact both with the physical world and the virtual object enriching the experience with data.
Augmented reality is defined as a system consisting of three essential features:
Combination of real worlds and virtual worlds
Real-time interactions
Accurate 3D view of real and virtual objects
The sensory information you will view on the screen can be additive or mask the natural environment.
For example, when you open an Augmented reality-ready application on your device to see what your 2-acre land would look like after construction and maintenance per a given design. You will not encounter any natural objects. Instead, you will view and experience only the virtual objects giving a clear idea of how your land would resemble.
Augmented reality is used to enrich natural environments and offer enhanced experiences. It offers an enhanced look and feel of the world you are in, which is artificial, adding value to the existing scenario.
However futuristic it may sound, nowadays, it is pretty easy to encounter Augmented reality technology. While still developing, it is estimated that worldwide spending on Augmented reality technologies will reach $45.1 billion by 2022. The technology is being used across industries, including marketing, healthcare, education, product development, manufacturing, etc.
