Transgender women often face rejection and marginalization in various social settings, and sports is one such domain where they encounter significant challenges. Specifically, when trans women compete in sports like running alongside cisgender women, they sometimes face backlash. Critics argue that if a trans woman wins, it’s because she underwent male puberty and thus possesses physiological advantages. It’s a sensitive and multi-faceted issue, but I believe that they should have the right to compete with other women. To ensure fairness, one possible solution could be employing data science techniques. By statistically comparing the performance of transgender runners with biologically similar runners (using past data), we might be able to determine competitive outcomes in a more nuanced manner.
